The Artisan, Acaya Even as a young girl I was in love with paper! Whether it was cutting, gluing, painting or chalk; construction paper, typing paper, tracing paper or cardstock, I was happy if I was transforming that page into something new. Since then, I've tried all sorts of crafts to keep my hands busy, but I've always come back to paper. For awhile it was origami - that was fun, but then came QUILLING! I remember vividly the first time I ever saw a quilling piece. It was a "miniature" scene; a "wicker" chair, some plants and a lamp. I was amazed! The detail! The colors! The PATIENCE that went into rolling each tiny piece of paper and gluing them all into something so recognizable! I was awestruck! It was awhile before I came upon my first quilling kit: Berries Sampler (by Lake City Crafts.) I got about half-way through when I set it down for some important "life business" and picked it up about ten years later. (You know how Life has a way of interfering with our plans!) Then I tried my hand at patterns found in several books, such as "Carousel Horse" above, and "Cross" below. (Both of these patterns came from Malinda Johnston's The Book of Paper Quilling. Sorry, these pieces are copyrighted and cannot be sold here.) From there I began creating my own designs and will have some featured in the 2009 Quilling-a-Day Calendar by Accord. I can't get enough! It's a great activity and often keeps me up late into the night. The only problem is, my work area is getting cluttered with more quilling pieces than I can give away! I guess it's time to part with some of them. So, have some fun browsing, see what paper can make! You'll only find items of original design for sale, and some of them are one-of-a-kind at that! Amaze your family and friends with a quilling gift (and help me clean up my workroom!) Acaya If you have an idea, something you'd like to see done in quilling, just send an email and we'd be happy to explore the possibilities with you. |
